How Does It Work

Among RICHEN's vitamins ingredients, Vitamin K2 MK-7 functions by activating specific vitamin K-dependent proteins, primarily osteocalcin and matrix Gla protein (MGP).
Osteocalcin: This non-collagenous protein is secreted by osteoblasts and plays an essential role in the formation of mineral in bone.
Matrix Gla Protein (MGP): This calcification inhibitory protein is found in numerous body tissues, but its role is most pronounced in cartilage and in arterial vessel walls.



Vitamin K2 has several subtypes, which differ in isoprenoid chain length. Among the several vitamin K homologs, only vitamin K2 MK-7 can promote y-carboxylation of extrahepatic vitamin K-dependent proteins (VKDPs), such as Osteocalcin (OC), and the Matrix Gla Protein (MGP) at a nutritional dose around the Recommended Dietary Intake (RDl). RiviK2® MK-7 has higher efficacy due to its higher bioavailability and longer half-life than other vitamin K homologs. Like most biological molecules, K2 MK7 can exhibit interesting structural characteristics. Specifically, MK-7 K2 vitamin can exist as geometric isomers that exist in cis, trans, and cis-trans forms. However, only the all-trans form is biologically significant.
